Football Rules & Scorecards

Suggested Rules

  • Play one-on-one or as teams.
  • Use the Sporthole scorecard or play to an agreed upon point total.
  • Each player or team can either throw all bags at once, or alternate tosses with the opponent.
  • If Player/Team A starts the game, Player/Team B ends the game.
  • Make sure to agree upon the throwing distance before starting.
  • You get 4 throws to try for 100 yards.
  • If your throws add up to 100 yards you get a touchdown, worth 6 points.
  • Hail Mary throw can be made at anytime for an automatic TOUCHDOWN!
  • Extra point try comes after a touchdown. From original distance throw the bag into the extra point hole for 1 point, or go for 2 point conversion inside the Hail Mary hole. (NOTE: extra point call needs to be made out loud).
  • If you didn’t make 100 yards, you have the option of trying for a field goal, or a Hail Mary throw for a touchdown.
  • A field goal only counts on the 4th down throw. If you make a bag into the field goal hole prior to your 4th down throw, it counts as a turnover and your turn is over. Your opponent can now step in and take one shot for the Hail Mary. If successful, it counts as a pick six (interception returned for a TD).
  • Safety will occur if you do not make at least one bag through a hole; your opponent is now awarded 2 points.

Example Drive

  • 1st throw you make it into the 10 yard hole.
  • 2nd throw you make it into the 20 yard hole.
  • 3rd throw you make it into the 30 yard hole.

You've gained 60 yards. You now have 2 options:

  • 4th throw can be attempted to go for the 40 yard hole to make 100 yards and a touchdown.
  • Or... 4th throw you go for the field goal (walk up 6 steps).

Scoring a Field Goal

  • However many yards you gained on 3 throws, that’s how many steps you can walk up to attempt a field goal. For example, if you make 50 yards on 3 throws, then you walk up 5 steps (10% of yardage gained) and attempt field goal between uprights.

(NOTE: steps need to be determined beforehand, as steps can be longer or shorter for different people.)
